We’re very excited to welcome David Golann as our new Digital Fabrication/Computational Thinking Teacher!! In this capacity, he will be working closely with our students and teachers to implement our digital fabrication and computational thinking curriculum, and he will support our unit-based and individual projects. He will also supervise and manage our maker space, and he will be an integral part of our team as we continue to build our program.

For David’s demo lesson, our students had a blast designing and making their own motor boats.

David is a great fit for Portfolio, with extensive teaching experience and excellent fabrication and design skills. He is an incredibly student-centered and collaborative teacher.

We first got to know him through our Founding Director of Research and Learning Design, Nancy Otero. They had worked together at the Beam Center, which is an arts education center in Brooklyn that focuses on design, fabrication and technology.

David is currently an Art Instructor and School Partnership Specialist at the Beam Center, where he has partnered with teachers at many schools to integrate new media art techniques into their school curricula. He has worked at Beam for the past five years. He also served as the Digital Fabrication and Photography Teacher at Brooklyn Friends School for two years, and as the Photography Assistant Teacher in the International Center of Photography’s Teen Academy and Adult Programs for two years.

David holds a B.A. in Sculpture and American Studies from Marlboro College in Vermont. He has also completed additional course work at the Rhode Island School of Design, Portland School of Craft, the School of Visual Arts, and the Massachusetts College of Art.

We look forward to all the wonderful creations our students will be able make with David’s guidance.

Welcome, David!!
