We’re very excited that Molly Brown will be joining us in the Fall as our new Lower School teacher!  Molly inspired and impressed us during her candidate visit to Portfolio with her warmth, expertise, and the connections that she made with our students.  Her demo lesson engaged our students in a hands-on, inquiry-based activity, and her conversations with us reflected her passion for experiential, maker-centered learning and teaching.

Molly grew up in the neighborhood – West Village – and she attended Village Community School and Little Red Elizabeth Irwin.   She went on to earn a BA in Sociology from Purchase College, SUNY and an MS Ed in Early Childhood and Childhood General Education from Bank Street College.  Molly’s work at Bank Street was exceptional and her advisor there characterized her as one of the most promising teachers he has seen in his 40 + year career.

Molly most recently served as Head Teacher for the 4 and 5 year olds at Jewish Community Project Downtown in Manhattan.  In this capacity, she supervised two Assistant Teachers.  She has also worked as an Assistant Kindergarten/1st Grade Teacher at The Spence School.  Her references portrayed Molly as an outstanding teacher who approaches her work with thoughtfulness, intentionality, and a great deal of positive energy.

In her free time, Molly enjoys practicing yoga, going to museums, spending time with her family and friends, as well as gardening, swimming and just being outdoors.   In Molly’s words: “I am excited and honored to join Portfolio. I look forward to collaborating with everyone and learning and exploring with my students!”  Welcome, Molly!
